Stop Hustling Backwards: 4 Proven Strategies to Transform Your Social Media Game

Introduction:

You ever feel like you're putting in endless hours on social media but always end up with very little to show for it? Yea I’ve been there too. Probably one of the most frustrating things when it comes to being a creator entrepreneur is hustling backwards—putting in a bunch of time and energy but never seeing the results you deserve.

I’m Marvelle, a funnel and content strategist, and in this article I’m going over some hard-earned lessons that helped me break free from this cycle. Hopefully they can help you too so you can start seeing more engagement and sales from your social media strategy.

What Does Hustling Backwards Look Like?

It’s that feeling of inconsistency, hopping on trends without a clear strategy, and struggling with engagement. It’s months where you’re on top of the world posting content and getting sales, then there’s months, even years when you’re at your lowest, ready to give it all up. You post, hope for the best, but nothing sticks. You start to question if you need a new strategy or new products or maybe even new business at this point because you just seem stuck. Don’t let be your reality.

Discover four key strategies to stop hustling backwards on social media and start seeing real engagement and sales.

Strategy #1: Create a Content Strategy

First things first—I had to come up with content strategy. I was making great content, even went viral numerous times, but rarely did that translate to any actual sales. A lot of that had to do with my lack of content strategy. I didn’t have a goal or any focus. Think of a content strategy like your roadmap. It helps you get clarity on your goals, so you can have an idea of what your content is supposed to be doing. This lets you set clear goals, understand your audience, and create purposeful content so you can post with intention rather than just throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks.

Strategy 2: Be Social

Alot of creators, entrepreneurs and business owners forget that the first word in social media is "social." That means engaging with others is crucial. It’s a lot to get into but basically the algorithm shows your content to people who’ve previously engaged with or viewed your content, as well as people that might be interested in seeing it based on relationship. And the way they weigh the relationship is the same you would weigh most relationships. Who do you talk to and interact with the most? Who are you DM’ing the most? Who are you sending reels to? What reels are you sending them? The algorithm takes all this into account, so the more people you engage with the more reach your content is going to have.

And not only that, you have to remember that there’s a person behind that profile. Someone who has thoughts and feelings and opinions and problems. One of the biggest mistakes I see over and over is approaching every interaction looking to sell something. It completely disregards the actually person on the other end of that post or comment. Focus on building relationships, not selling. Start conversations, interact with pages, ask questions and leave thoughtful comments. If you do I promise the algorithm will bless you.

Pro Tip: Spend 20-30 minutes daily engaging with content in your niche as well as pages that might have your potential clients or audience. Leave valuable comments that will make people want to interact or find out more about you.

Strategy 3: Analyze Your Analytics

Analytics are your best friend and something that the majority of business owners and entrepreneurs overlook. It may look complicated, but I promise it’s not and understanding a few simple things can have a major impact on your content and your business. There’re too many platforms to break them all down here but there plenty of videos on YouTube that will explain how to check analytics for your preferred platform. Make it a habit to check your analytics 1-2 a month so you can see what content is performing the best. This lets you know what content you should focus on making more of and what needs to be changed or improved. Make sure you regularly review your metrics so you can make the best content for your audience.

Pro Tip: Schedule a monthly analytics review. Look for spikes in engagement and replicate the success. Just because content doesn’t perform well doesn’t mean it was bad content. Maybe the hook wasn’t great, maybe the b-roll didn’t connect, maybe nobody saw it. Don’t just assume because something didn’t get results the first time that it won’t ever work. A lot of marketing is just testing and making things better.

Strategy 4: Build Your Email List

No exceptions on this one. Social media platforms can be unpredictable. Algorithms change, and platforms can go down. It’s extremely import to build a list off of the platform so you can have direct access to your audience, no matter what and own your contact list. Your profile could get banned, deleted or even hacked tomorrow and everything you’ve worked for would be gone. If you haven’t started building an email list, then I suggest you get started right away. A few ESP(Email Service Providers) I suggest for people getting started are BeeHive, MailerLite, ConvertKit. Don’t get caught lacking in these internet streets. Have a list and take really good care of it and it’ll reward you in the best ways possible because at any point you’ll be able to send out an email and make money within minutes.

Pro Tip: Offer freebies, webinars, or newsletters to encourage followers to join your email list. This way, you can maintain consistent contact and provide ongoing value.

Final Thoughts

Breaking the cycle of hustling backwards isn’t easy, but with these four strategies, you’ll be on your way to transforming your social media and content game. Remember, it’s all about creating a strategy, being social, analyzing your performance, and building an email list.
